It sounds like the fat cashier was on a power trip. Or he gets yelled at by management for being nice to customers beyond the call of duty. He would rather be an asshole to you, but keep the company happy by not honoring your request even though he could done so. Corporations want robots that follow orders and company policy to the letter. They don't want people that think and feel. I recently had a "jump through many hoops" as a consumer experience I'd like to share with you.
